You cannot see inside a tooth. Decay under a filling, infection at the root tip, the state of the bone — only an image shows these. Here an X-ray costs 1,000 AMD and is taken on site — no trip to another clinic and back.
About 60% of a tooth is hidden under the gum and inside the bone. On examination the dentist sees only the crown — the part on the outside. Everything important happens inside: infection at the root tip, a cyst, decay where two teeth touch, bone loss.
Without an image the dentist has to guess. That is where the cases come from where a tooth was 'treated' but the pain stayed, or where someone was told the tooth had to go when it could have been saved. 1,000 AMD for an image prevents far more expensive mistakes.
The clinic is licensed for radiological diagnosis by the Ministry of Health of Armenia. We also see people referred by another dentist — you can come for the image only.
Important: pregnancy is not an absolute bar to an X-ray. The dose for a dental image is very small, while an untreated infection is incomparably more dangerous in pregnancy. The decision is made together with the dentist.

So one dental image is roughly what you receive simply by living for a day. A digital sensor gives 5-10 times less than film. A lead apron and thyroid shield are used.

The dose from a modern digital X-ray is very small — one image is roughly what you get from natural background radiation in a day. A lead apron is used. An untreated infection is incomparably more dangerous than the image.
A routine image in the first trimester is postponed. In an urgent case (severe pain, an abscess) it is taken, always with a lead apron. Please tell the dentist if you are or might be pregnant.
A dental X-ray has no effect on breast milk. There is no need to interrupt feeding.
