Why an implant is the best solution
When a tooth is removed, the problem is not only the empty space. While you chew, the root transmits pressure to the bone, and it is that pressure that tells the bone it is needed. Once the root is gone the signal stops, and the bone begins to resorb. About 25% of its volume is lost in the first year.
This shows on the outside too: the cheek sinks in, the lip loses support and the face looks more tired. Meanwhile the neighbouring teeth tilt towards the gap, the opposing tooth drifts out of its socket, and the bite is disturbed.
An implant is the only method that restores the root itself. The bone is loaded again and stops shrinking. A bridge or a removable denture restores only the upper part — the bone underneath keeps melting away.
